Full Circle
In so many ways I feel like I've come full circle. Eklutna Lake in the fall. The Birchwood Race with the boys. Moose raiding our backyard. Picking raspberries and pulling out jackets. Now that we've been in Alaska a year, I feel like we've been able to create several wonderful traditions. Here are some pictures of our Eklunta adventure. Catching leaves and skipping rocks were the boys favorite events.
On Your Mark. . .
Here are the boys at the 2008 Birchwood Race. Christian was so excited and determined to be in the top 10.

He got off to a great start, but the competition was steep.

Christian fell just short of of his goal, but was amazing and had his mother just screaming and cheering.
Here's Tanner. He didn't inherit the Warner competitive gene like his brother and was content to run for the sake of running.
I was snapping pictures at the finish line next to their school principal who was greeting all of their fellow classmates by NAME. I could do an entire post on their principal and how absolutely amazing she is.

Some things never change. Here's Sam's race photo 2008. Click here for the 2007 comparison. Maybe someday he'll actually race.

Christmas Countdown
Here's a sneak peak at Christmas 2008. Legos, Playmobil, K'Nex. . . does any of that surprise you? When my last package arrives from Lego.com, I will be 100% done with Christmas for my boys. Wahoo! My goal is to have them all wrapped by October 1st so I can be listed amongst the amazing, the fanatical. I have had so much fun shopping for the boys this year and love that they are still young enough to be thrilled with anything!
UP to Date
This is Warner just a few weeks shy of one. He can take about five steps. As evident by the fat lip and the face wounds, he's not the most graceful Baconbit. Warner can also say Ba-Ba (for Bottle) and Hi (only when the phone it at his ear). This little character is going through a terrible "needy" phase which means that I'm going through a terrible "how do I replace frustration and insanity with love and patience" phase.
Wednesday was the third of three field trips I've been on in the last week. Where have I been? Well, the Eagle River Nature Center, the Eagle River Nature Center, and the Eagle River Nature Center.
Conspiracy Theory
At church Hyrum's nursery leader pulled me aside and shared this conversation she had with him.
(little background. President Hinckley was the prophet of our church until January when he passed away at the age of 97. In April President Monson was sustained as the new prophet of our church.)
Hyrum: Did you know that President Hinckley is dead?
Sis Lyon: Yes.
Hyrum: And that he's in heaven?
Sis Lyon: Yes.
Hyrum: Guess what. It was a BAD GUY that killed him. . . it was. . . President Monson.
I love how their little brains work at 3.

Hyrum's First Day of Preschool
Yesterday was Hy's first day of Preschool. He was so excited ALL day long and could barely wait until it was time to strap on the backpack and head up the road. I want to say it was sheer brilliance that got him into this program, but alas it was a lottery. He's the lucky fellow to be in a class with 3 other friends and 2 teachers which meets 4 days a week. So far his favorite part is "music" and "books"

teething
Sam is doing so well in 1st grade.
He's started reading chapter books.
Every night we sing, "Read, Read, Read. Sam loves to Read. Sam loves to read a chapter. Read. Read. Read." (to the the Tune of Sing, Sing, Sing from the Primary Songbook)

A few weeks ago I was in the children's sunday school room setting up for music time. The children started to enter and I asked Sam if he could take Warner to Eric for me. He put the baby on his hip and trotted down the hallway. A few minutes later Eric entered the room and asked for Warner. Hmmm. . . .
A friend filled us in later that Sam had slung Warner to our friend Jerry and exclaimed, "If you see my dad will you give him THIS." I guess if it works for a notebook, or a letter, it might as well be good enough for your baby brother.
