Utah-Day 8

Best part of Utah? Family. Hands down it is being with family.

These moments are priceless . . . Hryum all snuggled up on the couch reading to his Grandma.

More Big Bucket Pool

Utah-Day 7

This is why Hyrum got on the airplane to come to Utah. He LOVES this place!!! It is the Lehi Legacy Aquatic Center . . . but to us Bacons it is known as the Big Bucket Pool. We can get our entire family in for less than a kids admission to Alaska's H2O Oasis. On Wednesday we met up with my sisters Denise and Kari and kids and spend four glorious hours swimming.

I, of course, spent most of my time following this little soul around. He LOVED the blue slides and I lost count after 32 times. After each slip and slide he'd ask if he could go again.

More Fun at the Discovery Museum.

Gateway Discovery Museum-Utah Day 6

Today we met up with my Sister Denise and her Lindsey at the Gateway Discovery Museum. 5 1/2 hours of fun. It was fun to take pictures of Hyrum who loved getting dressed up as a postal worker, a grocer, a builder, a cow. His favorite was the helicopter. Warner loved the water table and the beehive. Sam played grocer for quite a while and was happily bossed by some little girl who smartly said she was in charge. Christian & Tanner spent the majority of the time upstairs building, drawing on a spinner art thing, and making parachutes.

Down Time

Grandpa reading a book to Sam and Warner. Little W. sure likes to follow Grandpa around and has taken a special liking to the Organ.

This is what happens when at 1 a.m. a little boys runs up and down the moving walkways at the airport 22 times.

The three littlest cousins.

Just hanging out with the Arizona Warners.

Aunt Jess

This is our Aunt Jess. She's amazing. I am so glad that my brother married her. I think when we were younger we all wondered if our future sister-in-laws would meld into the family. I adore Jess and truly consider her a sister. She's an incredible winker, mom, ticket to ride player, wife, magnetix builder, M&M payer, puppeteer, seamstress, and is down right fun to be around. Love you lots Jess. So glad we could spend the weekend with you!

All American

I swore this day would never come. In my mind I was raised better than this. Consumer Reports might even shake their finger at me. But it was time to swallow my pride and take a step out into the wild unknown.

Yes, I Stephanie Bacon bought an American Made Car (okay, it was really Eric because when push came to shove I just couldn't do it. . . remember, I'm the tight wad in this marriage, and even though I was the one that found the car on Craiglists, I was the one who said it had everything I needed in a van, even though I was the one who said we should buy it, I somehow could not get over the fact that this was actually going to cost me lots of money).

Meet Stanley. Our 12 passenger, Chevy Express. We should really call him our Peace Machine. . . because he has transformed our traveling experience from brutal to bliss.

Aching Ears

We've been suffering through a double dose of double ear infections.
We've been pushing the amoxicilliin, pushing the fluids, pushing our limits on sleepless nights.

Easter

We were blessed to have the Beames over on Easter Weekend. True to form, Trish brought some amazing things for the kids to do. And I have to admit, I was a tad embarrassed when she whipped out the hard boiled eggs and said, "Now you boys probably already know how to do this, right?" Blank stares. It had been probably five years since we dyed eggs. They had the time of their lives.

Eric and Scott just goofying off. These two were hired the same year and actually went to PDP (new teacher training) together. Eric has a lot of respect for Scott as a teacher and we hope that our boys will be lucky enough someday to have him as their Seminary Teacher.

Hyrum's 5th Birthday

Hyrum officially turned five in April, but he's really been five for a LONG time. He's done a lot of learning and growing up in the last year. I've been so amazed with him. In the past year he's learned to write his first and last name and his friends first and last names and his siblings and. . . He sings his vowel sound song with precision. He's reading at a 1st grade level. He said goodbye to thumb sucking and his blankie. He gets HIMSELF up, dressed, teeth, prayers, and chores without being reminded. He's the only Bacon Boy that can unclip the baby's carseat. (reality check: he still goes berserk (hitting, crying, all mental) when hurt or teased. says cute things like "Snore-board for snowboard. can ROLL his eyes and show a bit of sass, has selective listening)

Here are some pictures from his party. All SEVEN of his friends came (Corbin, Cayden, Maddi, Connor, Sabian, Nathan, & Zane). It was a wild time. The kids colored race car shirts.

There was a race car warm up and race around the house.

Cake too!

My cake creating skills still need a bit of work.

Rubbing Shoulders

One of my favorite things to do is to "rub shoulders" with Great Women. Smart Women. Strong Women. Kind Women. Women-Who-Know.
This Spring I had the opportunity to go with Eric to Area Husband and Wife (in Spokane) & EFY Session Director Training (in SLC). In the past I have always felt like the biggest perk of those trips were free tickets "home" to see either Eric's parents or Mine. This year, we stayed just for the meetings and I found myself feeling so blessed simply by associating with the Women.
The meetings themselves were GREAT, but the women at those meetings were even GREATER.
I'm not sure how to describe it . . . but just being around these GREAT women make me want to be better. Most of my interactions with them were simple. A conversation during lunch. A hello in the hallway. Just observing them from afar.
Most of my heroes are just ordinary, family loving, family defending, hard working, good-seeking women. Many of who don't even know that they are my heroes. So in honor of Mother's Day, I thought I'd pay tribute to a few "unknown" mothers that I adore:

Susan Fox-Mother of 9. So genuine. I remember one Sunday at church Susan came up to me and asked if she could take my twins for an afternoon. I cannot tell you how many well kind and willing people I had over the years say, "I'd love to take your boys sometime for you." or "Let me know if I can ever do anything to help." But it usually stops there, because I never ask. Susan was one of a handful that MADE it happen. I was so touched by that kindness. I had the chance to watch her for several years in Flagstaff and quickly realized that I was just one of hundreds that she reached out to and helped.
Megan Speaks-Mother of 3. Someone who has such an intimate relationship with the Atonement. She is wise and humble and seeking to do what is right. I love that she is so real and honest and a great example of not just knowing what she should be doing but DOING it.
Trish Freeman-Mother of 4 (we've already called dibs on her two girls and hope that someday they will each fall in love with a Bacon boy). Someone who just oozes goodness. I love how Trish doesn't conform to the norm, but stretches so much HIGHER. Take Sundays for example, at the Freeman house they don't play with their lightsabers, or toys or even read their everyday books. They've transformed Sunday into a truly different, special, amazing day. When she shared the idea with me, it was just something that seemed so obvious, so true, so right. . . I felt like a light when on and I was suddenly freed from my "cruise-control" just survive the day mentality. I know I am a better mom because I know Trish.
Tiffany Hopkinson-Mother of 4. I always really admired that Tiffany is a thinker. She really, REALLY thinks about things and internalizes their meaning, their value, their application. When Tiffany shares something I really try to listen because there always is a depth, born out of wisdom and complete sincerity, in her opinion. I think as I mature, I am slowly learning this art, this skill of really thinking.
Trish Beames-Mother of 5 (we've called dibs on four of her girls). She and her family just moved to Alaska, her husband is the "new" seminary teacher, taking over Eric's old position. We've been blessed to do a few things with them and I'm just amazed at her. . . she's like the FamilyFun magazine in action.
Stacey Lyon-Mother of 8. I get the impression that Stacey knows who she is and what she is suppose to be. She's not concerned with being at every social event. She's not concerned about having the latest fashions, the hippest hairstyle, the flock of friends following her. I doubt she has a cell phone or a ipod. But it only takes about 30 seconds to realize that Stacey is a great mother, a great teacher, someone who is very calm and kind and true.
Tammi Moon-Mother of 5. We had our twins just days apart, our husbands have the same job and so we share a lot in common. I love to just talk to her about what is working in their family. Like us, they would LOVE to have their family involved in a million things, but money and time and priorities (good, better, best) just doesn't allow it. Sometimes it feels good to just have back up that they way you are doing or struggling with something is okay and others understand.
Lisa Lee-Mother of 12. Sister Flake-Mother of 8. Two women that I get to visit with once every two years at our Area Husband & Wife Meetings. I don't really know either of them very well. But the spirit that they both carry with them buoys me and I find myself months after our meetings thinking of them and still aspiring to be like them. I always feel so encouraged in my role as a wife and mother after being around them.

Junk

Do you ever feel like you are buying stuff to just buy stuff?
This year I found myself waltzing through the toy isles at WalMart and Target in search of Conference Basket fillers and whispering to myself, "Junk. Junk. Junk."
I didn't want more Junk. . . we've got plenty of that in the form of McDonald toys and Birthday Party trinkets. And my kids didn't NEED anything on the clearance racks either. So rather than buy stuff to just to buy it, we had recycled conference baskets this year. I gathered up a handful of markers and colored pencils and crayons and placed them by the comic books a neighbor had given us just a few days earlier. I topped off the baskets with candy filled eggs.
I was worried that they kids would be disappointed . . . but they seemed thrilled. Why? Because there was candy. Next year NO junk, just JUNK Food.

Wii Love This Boy

Eric's favorite Christmas Gift this year? Hands down the Wii. You should see him Hula Hoop. It is amazing. Almost every morning he is downstairs weighing in and doing the Yoga/Strength Training . . . with Warner by his side. Amongst his first words was "Wii Fit." Warner does the downward dog. Warner does the deep breathing. Warner does the pushups & plank. He's got the whole thing memorized. He's a small snippet of his Wii jargin.

March Moments

Just some random photos from March. The boys and I pulled out the fondue one night and had a blast dipping (the fondue set was a white elephant gift). Talmage loves his Johnny jump-up. The boys begged to get the dress up box down during Spring Break. Sam giving the sign for two minute showers (the boys can stay in the bath and/or shower for a good hour just playing). Eric in desperate need of a haircut.

Science Fair

This is probably the first of a billion Science Fairs that we will be to participate in. I was really proud of the boys and their willingness to jump in and get it done. Christian did experiments to see how "strong" water was when it froze (could it break through glass? aluminum? plastic?) Tanner tested two diapers to see which one (Luvs vs. Pampers) absorbed more--they were EXACTLY the same by our crude standards.
